Robert Bosch Tool Corp. Recalls About 120,000 Table Saws Because of
Potential Risks to Users

The Associated Press

Dec. 6, 2004 - Robert Bosch Tool Corp. is recalling about 120,000
table saws because of potential problems that could expose users to
injury or electric shock, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said
Monday.

The commission said the drive mechanism on the table saw may loosen,
possibly causing laceration, or the motor can separate from the tool,
potentially striking the user or posing a hazard of electric shock.

The company has received 11 reports of loose or broken motors from
these Skil Table Saw Model 3400 saws. There have been no reports of
injury or property damage.

Only Skil table saws with model number 3400 printed on the front side
of the table base with the following date codes, printed on the upper
right corner of the table base, are included in the recall. For 2002,
date codes 28501-28831; for 2003, codes 38101-39231; for 2004, codes
48101-48811.

The table saws, made in Taiwan, hold 10-inch blades and are made of
metal tabletops with a red plastic base.

They were sold at Home Depot, Lowe's, Menards and other independent
hardware retailers nationwide from July 2002 through October 2004 for
$149-$199.

Consumers should contact Robert Bosch Tool Corp. to receive a repair
kit, which includes hardware and instructions, at 800-351-5788 between
7 a.m. and 7 p.m. CST Monday through Friday.

Yes. There are (or were) two Bosch brands in Europe.

I think it was like "Zeiss" - half went West, half stayed East. When
the Wall came down there was some confusion to sort out.
