Default Be careful when signing up with Nestcape for their 'free trial'

I signed up yesterday with Netscape for a month of free trial. Today I
looked at my checking account and they had taken money out three times. When
I called them I got a telemarketing company in India. They were rude,
refused to give me my money back, told me to shutup after they asked me to
give my side and hung up on me.

So HOW the Hell did they get the account numbers/etc to be able to
take money out of your CHECKING Account?? I think I would have
refused to give them a credit card # or a checking account number for
a FREE trial period -

Contact your local State Attorney general about filing FRAUD charges
against NetScape (which is actually AOL - as AOL-TW OWNs Netscape)

If you are referring to the Internet browser Netscape, it is
downloadable and free. But it sounds like you signed up for some kind
of monthly service scam. Is "Netscape" supposed to be some kind of
woodworking service? Anyway, it's a good idea to keep private any
banking information. At least with credit cards there is *some*
protection.

Are you talking about dial-up service, as in ISP? Or a browser and email account?
Because the latter is totaly free. I do believe you were ripped-off. If you gave your
CC# then you can call your CC company and tell them about it. They will send you
forms to fill out and you won't owe money for it, after that.

Talk to your bank or credit card company. We have had excellent service
in having excess charges removed. It should be quite clear that nobody
signs up for three separate accounts with the same name.

I did have one computer complaint that was routed to India. The service
they provided was worthless. It is sad that we are forced to rely on
such terrible support.

The first lesson is to never give your account number for something that is
supposed to be free. Hell, be very careful who you give your account
numbers to under any circumstances.

You can contact your bank or your credit card company to reverse those
charges.

Finally, all call centers log calls. When you receive rude or improper
treatment from a call center agent, simply call back and ask for a
supervisor. All call centers run under the principle of transferring you to
a supervisor upon request although it is common to be told that they are in
a meeting. Be persistent and request another supervisor. Give the
supervisor you phone number and the time and date that you called and the
nature of your complaint and he/she can instantly (or near instantly) bring
up the record of that call. The call itself may or may not have been
recorded - which certainly could help you, but even if it were not, the
supervisor can see which agent your call went to. Remember that when you
are dealing with a call center, you are dealing with a call center.
Brilliant, huh? Their business is calls, not the product you are calling
about. They will protect their business first and your interest and the
interests of the company they represent second. Never be afraid to look up
the headquarters location and phone number of the company you are doing
business with and contact them directly with your complaint. This will
generally result in greater satisfaction for you than dealing with a call
center.

Good luck.

Get a different number for Netscape and talk to them, notify your
bank of the theft as well as your state Atty Gen. See if that
helps.

Just like every other subscription service in the world, if you want
the subscription to end, you need to tell them. It's not amazing that
this happens, it's amazing that people complain about it.

When
I called them I got a telemarketing company in India.

Well, that in itself is good enough reason to avoid them. But, complaining
that a free trial subscription gets you subscribed to the service is
silly at best.
