Deck Building Classes in Maui HI

Hui No'Eau Visual Arts Center

Ages: 10 – 17

Through the use of hand tools and
woodworking machines this course
teaches young people to safely manipulate
wood into a colorful downhill cruiser.
Students will learn woodworking shop
safety, design, vacuum laminating, deck
shaping, sanding, template painting basics
and finishes while building a street deck.
This course is intended for students with
basic or no previous woodworking
experience. Wheels and trucks are not
included.

Supply fee: $40
Week 3: June 21 – 24

Youth/Teen Build Your Own Skateboard
Deck

Have you ever wanted to build your own skateboard deck from scratch?
This course will teach you how to do just that using innovative
techniques created by the Roarockit Skateboard Company in Maui,
Hawaii. You too can build a deck as well as the pro?s do! You'll learn
how to laminate 7 layers of Canadian hard maple veneer into a street
cruiser by using a one-sided foam mould and atmospheric pressure to
press the veneers into a modern street deck shape. Your deck will then
become one of-a-kind as you design your own graphics and learn to
apply them using stencils and paint. In addition to having a custom
deck, you'll learn about wood veneers used for the manufacture of
skateboards, simple mould making techniques, atmospheric pressure,
basic use of hand woodworking tools like rasps and sandpaper,
designing graphics, template making, and deck finishing. No previous
woodworking experience is required.

Please note that wheels and trucks are not included in your kit or kit
cost.
