Default Book Review - Woodshop Lust

There are a lot of woodworking books out there with,
at best, misleading titles - "The COMPLETE Woodworking
Book", "Setting Up A Shop - EVERYTHING You Need to Know".
"THE Book of Joinery", "Build A House Full Of Heirlooms-
Over The Weekend!" (ok, so I made that one up). Finally,
there's a woodworking book that lives up to its title
"Woodshop Lust".

If you refer to woodworking catalogues as Tool Porn,
and if you refer to yourself as a Wood Horder (though
others call you a Wood Whore since you'll do just
about anything to get MORE WOOD) - put away your
Viagra/Cialis cause this 125 pages of mainly photos
will likely cause a Woody. There are TWENTY FIVE,
count 'em, twenty five shops to drool over
Five in garages
Seven in basements
A Baker's Dozen stand alones
with color photos of tools, machines and wood
in situ.

OK - so I have to admit - I haven't read ANY of
the text yet - other than the table of content,
but I've flipped through this book twice in the
store and thumbed through it while driving home
(and didn't hit anyone or anything, nor did I
get stopped and ticketed for any moving vehicle
violations - and we've got a Didn't Come To
A COMPLETE Stop At the Stop Sign police crack
down underway in my neighborhoood).

The last shop in the book is the heart stopper
- a 10000 sf replica of a 17th century English
bar, with a completely restore Moak Machinery
(wait for it) THIRTY SIX INCH direct drive
bandsaw, a 16 speed Walker-Turner radial arm
drill press which Delta continued to produced
up to 2002 - for only $10,400, a 1946 Newman 6o,
16" joiner - with a 24" cast iron tables, a
1900s pattern sop lateh - driven by overhead
- leather belts - with a 60" outboard swing,
20" inboard swing and 77" "Between Centers"
capacity. There's also a 24" planer, and
37" 20 hp drum sander AND an SCI/Technomax
S325 WS sliding table saw. Did I mention
that he's got a28 foot clear span with
ceiling height of 10 feet - AND a 200 amp,
3 phase service?

NOW do you have - to quote Jimmy Carter
- Lust In Your Heart?

For $19.99 USD (I think that's like four
and change in Euros, maybe $10 Canadian
at today's exchange rate). This is NOT
a bedside table book since it'll keep
you awake all night drooling at the
pictures. Would make a great bathroom/
reading room book - as long as you
can ignore people banging on the door
yelling "ARE YOU DONE IN THERE? OTHER
PEOPLE WANT TO USE THE JOHN TOO YOU
KNOW!"

Oh, and for the spatially challenged,
there's a great one car garage shop
- with central heat and air.
