Dovetail Instructions Needed

All,

A recent garage sale provided me with a slightly used Craftsman
dovetail template # 315.25790.
Unfortunately, no instructions were with the template and one set of
spacers appears to be missing. Is anyone willing to email me a copy
of their instructions? Also,
Could anyone put a caliper on the two different sized spacers and let
me know what the thicknesses are?

Your help is greatly appreciated,

Dustinpockets@netscapeDOTnet

The unit look like one of the generic jigs. The instructions from
Rockler's web side should do.

I have one of these, picked it up at a garage sale, but I never got
around to figuring it out. Instead I learned how to cut dovetails
by hand, and lost interest in doing it with a router.

While I do have the manual that came with my jig, it would be far
too involved for me to try and scan it in. However, it looks like
you can still gets parts for this item from Sears Parts[1]. At the
web site, type in the model number (315.25790) in the search area.
When you eventually get to the listing of parts, the manual is part
number 612547-176 and appears to sell for $4.99.

Yeah,

Unfortunately, Instructions and handling exceed the cost of the entire
guide.

So what?? That still gives you a usable dovetail jig for, what?, about
$25.00?

Pony up the ten bucks and try it out...worst case is that you're out ten
bucks.

Best case is that you've got a DT jig that'll work for what you want it to
do for years.

Middle of the road is that you will figure out that you like using a jig,
but you want to get a more flexible one and replace it...in the mean time,
you've had a DT jig to use and play with....and hopefully, make stuff with.

Sears wants to charge about $15 for a replacement set of instructions
and when you are done, you still have a POS.

I threw mine in the trash and bought a JET.

Bought it on Amazon at a time when they were offering a bunch of
discounts which made it all the more attractive.

So the problem isn't that the information is unavailable, but really that
you want someone to spend their time getting you answers that you are
unwilling to pay for.

I apogize for posting my modest request, Used it to be you could get
this kind of information on this newsgroup.

Seems like it's been hijacked by the elitist sort inhabiting some of
the HVAC groups.

Perhaps Frank is willing to spend a few $ on something that may turn
out to be mediocre at best. (Throwing good money after bad?) Not every
one has the disposable income.

Oh, and by the way Frank, I also asked if someone could measure the
thickness of the spacers I need, not a big task.

Perhap you might tell me the time or dollar $ minimums that must be
met before some assistance is rendered. One kind individual did go to
the trouble of leading me to the Rockeler site and some very generic
instruction. (Thank you fellow woodworker) The instructions however,
didn't help much for the Sears unit.

If you post the guidelines, time/$, for a request I'll try to comply.

I don't often get ****ed off reading
Usenet; it's a waste of energy. And I"m
not really ****ed off here either, more
annoyed at the arrogance at this.

I've made requests for help on the Wreck
and received some thoughtful answers
that have steered me in the right
direction from people who took the time
to try and help someone they'll never meet.

Elitist, my ass. The regulars in this
group are among the most helpful around.
Newbies are welcomed with open arms and
given so many pointers, it's an
embarrassment of riches. Witness the
thread on Just Three power tools. There
are countless others.

You asked a question, it was answered.
Nope, no one went out and scanned a
manual for you but showed you where you
could get one. And then you have the
balls to insult the entire group.

My suspicion is that the next question
you ask will go unanswered.

Tanus,

Sorry your offended, it was my mistake to to lump all the users into
one group. I guess I was a bit miffed when ONE response thought I was
too cheap to order the information. And as I explained, I was looking
for a simple measurement also. Would you spend 2X the cost of a tool
on information? And remember some didn't think much of the jig in the
first place.

Lastly, I did than the one helpful respondant didn't I?

To those that were offended, Mea Culpa.
