If I wanted one I sure wouldn't shop eBay, I'd go to my local Ace,
and if for some reason it didn't work, I could take it and the receipt
back and get my money back, no hassle. And wouldn't be stuck for
shipping either.

I won't expect your bid then JOAT. I feel I am offering decent
products at a fair price.
I looked at Ace hardware web site. They do have a Keyless Jacobs
chuck, but alas it's a 3/8's and it's $23.99 ...wait I did find a 1/2
for $31.00
I started the auction at $1 It states the item is new. Sometimes you
have to have a little faith that the item is in fact as represented.
If you were to ask, I would tell you the item works as new, as
intended.
As far as stuck for shipping.Unless you walk to Ace... What's the
mileage rate these days....44cents per mile? My Ace is a bit over 5
miles away, so 10 miles @.44.
So possibly for quite a bit less than ACE (the bid is @$11 now) you
could have it delivered to your door.

The only thing I'm willing to try for on eBay are things I cannot
possible find anywhere else. Generally books. No more tools.

Awhile back, got a good price on an old eggbeater drill. Looked
like new in the pictures. The seller claimed it was in excellent
condition. Then when I got it, the chuck turned out totally toasted.
Contacted the seller. HE claimed he thought it would go to a collector,
and it didn't matter if it worked or not, so he considered it was in
excellent condition. Claimed he didn't now anyone would want to
actually use it. After considerable correspondence finally got my money
refunded. Less shipping both ways. I don't buy tools on eBay anymore.

I don't use keyless chucks either, and Ace is a couple of hundred
feet off my route to the post office, which I visit every day.

But the point is, IF I wanted a chuck, and was willing to use eBay
for one, I'd search on my own. I don't need any eBay postings on here
to lead me to one.

I don't need a chuck.

I did not ask you to read my post. It is Clearly marked "FA" Perhaps
next time try to refrain from reading, and derogatory posting.
And by the way I have a nice eggbeater as well. Thanks for the idea.

This is usenet anyone can pretty much say what they want, if you do
not like derogatory comments about your ads refrain from posting your
ads.

Right. Then you defend my right to post FA ads then?
The derogatory remarks don't bother me at all.

no. if you read the charter, they are not allowed here. if everyone who was
auctioning things on ebay posted here, the traffic would increase
tremendously, which is not needed. if people are looking for what you're
selling, they'd go there anyway. if not, then they wouldn't and we would be
subject to this.

The re my other response no I would not defend your right to post your
ads here, as they are a violation of your ISP's AUP and TOS. In other
words you could lose your Comcast account if enough people were to
complain to Comcast's abuse email address.

Maybe you shoulda marked it "FA - do not read" then. If by
derogatory posting you mean I have a low opinion of your spamming the
group, then you're right on that. And, I said eggbeater 'drill', not
just eggbeater.

For your information, if I need a new chuck, I'm gonna need it
right now, not after bidding for one on Ebay, then waiting thru the
bidding, and "if" I win, go thru the payment and confirmation, then
waiting for it to be shipped. Instead, I'll motor down to Ace if I need
one, get it the same day, and back home. If they don't happen to have
one in stock, they can probably get it by the next day. So maybe I'll
pay a few $ more than if I got one on eBay, or maybe not. Either way,
I'd be waaay ahead in time saved buying from Ace.

Don't ya just hate slow evenings? LOL

That would be the control message that started this news group.

Why would rec.woodworking have needed such a message?

My info is probably years out of date, but when I was selling on Ebay, one of
the things that you agreed to do was not to spam or publicize your auction
outside of Ebay..
