I'm looking for a new planer.

I have experience with a 20" Grizzly but never used a Jet planer. I
think Jet makes slightly superior products in some lines than griz.

This 15 griz planer has the same basic setup as the 20". This is not an
elegant solution but the jet and griz both look to have the same basic
limitation. The bed rollers are not easily adjustable. You have to use
set screws an ecentric cams on the Griz. Once you have it set its OK
but its not easy to go from a high setup for rough stock and a low
setting for faced stock. This is the biggest difference between good
and great planers but front adjustable bed rollers are only on the big
boys like Invicta's, etc.

It looks like the Jet maybe only has one height lock. I also like the
motor below setup of the griz better. The Amazon reviews say adjusting
the belts is a hassle with the upper motor config. I also like the
integrated mobile base.

I'd say the griz wins this one.

I had the same decision about a year ago except it was the Delta and Jet. I
don't like the Jet design because of safety issues. The out feed extension
roller can trap your hand or fingers between the roller and the exiting
stock. The Delta has fold down out feed and in feeds with several rollers
and the openings between the rollers have steel filing the voids making it
impossible of accidentally getting your hand or finger caught. With the
exception of the in deed and out feed that Jet is very much like the Delta.
Of the 2, I'd go with the Griz from a safety stand point.

Looks like an overwhelming majority in favor of the Grizzly. I would have
expected a few votes for the jet if for no other reason than someone had a
bad experience with Grizzly tools. I DAGS for more info to little avail.
I had purchased a DeWalt 735 and wasn't really happy with it. My son told me
to let him have it and for Christmas, He, his siblings, and their Mother
would come up with enough $$ for a bigger machine.
I got the money. Still undecided about the machine.

I have the Jet JWP-160. I have been very satisfied with it. I've run
many hundred feet of rough sawn oak, maple, walnut, cherry
and cedar thru it. It never stalled or bogged down. I had to put
a big DC on it too keep up with the volume. Knife changes are pretty
easy.

Setting up the In/Out rollers was a pain, but haven't touched them
since. For the price it was a great buy. I've never had a problem
with pinched fingers or any safety concerns. Just follow the
instructions......... New blade prices went up recently from $99
to $154. I need to order a couple of sets since a neighbor brought
some nails in his "little job".

Fit and finish were great. Its been used a lot in 8 months and still
looks new.
