I have just posted some pictures on alt.binaries, pictures.woodworking of a
miter saw table I made from the Popular Woodworksing plan at

worked out well but I am still wrestling with dust collection. The big issue
is that my saw is a Bosch slider and as you can see from the 4th and 5th
picture, the slider mechanism blocks my ability to gather up the dust. I
thought I had figured out a clever scheme by mounting the dust collector to
the end of the slider so it would move however I moved the slider but it
still isn't nearly good enough. If you have any advice or better yet,
pictures of dust collection on a SCMS, I would appreciate the help.

I made this same stand with a few of my own modifications about a year
ago. I decided then that attempting dust collection for a miter saw was
a waste of my time. I have never seen one that works due to the nature
of the beast. I swear they put a collection bag on most only because it
is the law to provide dust collection.

I just bought a Rigid miter saw stand for my Bosch slider and move it
to the driveway when I need to use it. I have yet to see a dust
collection system for a liter saw that didn't take up too much room in
the shop.

I have a Bosch sliding miter and went with a Rousseau Downdrafter for
dust collection. It looks like a large yellow sea shell, but it fits
snuggly around the saw and does a great job. It connects to a 4" vacuum
line at the bottom and I also purchased a small Delta vacuum that is
dedicated to the unit for another $179. It's a lot of money for dust
control, but for a machine that you use a lot, it's worth it. You can
get the Downdrafter at Amazon.com for $199 new or get a used one for
$159.

I just bought the same saw and built the same stand. I changed the plan
somewhat, but not significantly. I wish I had though. I should have
made the base unit about 6 inches wider. Have you tried to cut a 60
degree miter on the right or te saws maximum miter on the left? The wing
supports on the stand get in the way of this saws knobs/levers. Most of
the time I'll be cutting straight 90 degree cuts so it isn't that big of
a deal, but the first project I was working on after I built the stand
required a 60 degree cut... shoot! I had actually thought about making
it wider when i was building it, but for different reasons. Perhaps you
took this into consideration, but it looks like you missed it too based
on your pics.
