That is not so hard to come by as the see-through wood for the sides, and once you do get it planing it flat is a nightmare! Mekon |

(BTW, the hat is already cleverly suspended above the base with a very well concealed brass support which was a plate holder in a former life.) Now I would really like to build the "transparent wood" encasement as soon as possible. (PS. I found a great cheat for this part: Take pure silica sand, soda ash, and limestone, heat to about 1500° in a furnace, pour over a forehearth until it flows out nicely, let cool SLOWLY, then cut to size with a small steel cutting wheel. Some stores sell the kits pre-cut under the name "glass.") |

Mekon He could always use some typw of magnetic field to keep that hat suspended. Mebbe he could suspend it on a column of air. That way it could be made to move around in a circle for displaying all of its detail. Or just embed it in some plastic so that the 'glass sides' aren't really panes of glass, but the outer surfaces of a solid. |
