MDF Screw Hole Repair for Hinge
Hola -
Did a bit of googling and saw that plugging with a dowel and redrilling, or putting epoxy in the hole prior to gluing are two methods. Mom's got a couple of hinges that are pulling out of her mdf (looks more like particle-ish type board to me) and I'd like to fix them without drilling new cup holes. Is Gorilla Glue and Screws the best bet? The screws_are_relatively tight to the existing holes. Thanks much, JP |

Drill an over sized hole, say 1/4", then fill with some epoxy thickened with some micro balloons using something like a popsicle stick. Let harden and cure at least 48 hours, then drill pilot hole. BTW, stay away from the 5 minute epoxy, you want some good stuff. Been there, done that. The pure wood worker would probably use a dowel rod to fill the hole. Me, I like epoxy. HTH Lew |
