Made 6 sets of these coasters for gifts. Maple with walnut and cherry
accents.

OK...as a non-subscriber (wife is looking for mags for me though) tell us
how the inlay grooving were done. I have an idea on the rest of it but may
be way out in left field.

Beautiful!! I started making them, but got hung up with the intricacies of
keeping things even and straight.

You use a band saw to cut the maple square in 2 along one of the curves,
then glue a narrow band in the kerf, clamp things together until dry, then
repeat.

Doesn't that make the piece have gaps on certain curves? Do you cut out a
"Strip" to match the size of the inlay detail coloured piece?

I assume this is done on veneer thick pieces and all glued to a backplane?

Very nice work in Santa's workshop.

Thanks, Han.

After I got started, I almost did as you. The main thing is a good
bandsaw blade and setup. The Woodslicer 1/2" resaw blade was the key to
success. Slicing the glued up blank into 1/4" coasters was a breeze
with the woodslicer.

Very nice Doug! I don't think I would use them as coasters though. ;~)
