Default A baby barn: chapter II

Cutting of timberframe members is progressing. All dozen braces (diagonal
members between posts and crossbeams) are complete as well as all girts,
loft joists and a few perlins (girts are the small horizontal members
between posts and perlins span main rafters)

The third is the tool set. The plywood cutout is my "feeler gauge" for both
tennons and mortises. The rest should be pretty self-explanitory.

The last shot is layout on one of the posts. Processing the posts goes in
this order:

1. Choose two adjacent sides from which all refences will be measured.
These will be the ouside corner of the structure.

2. Square off bottom of post

3. Layout all joinery measuring from the bottom and the two reference faces.

4. Use a 1" auger but to drill out the corners of all mortises

5. Use a 1-5/8" forstner bit to drill out the centers of the mortises

6. Plunge-cut the sides of the larger mortises with the circular saw

7. Crosscut the mortise housings with the circular saw

8. Chop and pare mortises until I can pass the feeler gauge through them.

9. Cut tennon at the top of the post with a circular saw

10. Finish tennon cuts with hand saw.

11. Drill peg holes with a 3/4" auger bit, 1/2 way through from each side.

Stay tuned for more....
