Pens - Reclaiming Brass
Foul-up? not me! However, I have recently had occasion remove some brass
tubes that were CA'd inside some nasty and uncooperative blanks!!!(the blanks were cocobolo and had been turned to a too slim-line profile) It occurred to me that I was not going to 'mechanically' get them out; I needed chemical assistance. So... I packed all the tube filled blanks into a suitable sized plastic pill container and topped it up with acetone to cover all. Two hours later I attacked the blanks with a 'box opener' knife and peeled the wood off the blank! Then I sanded the blanks with 100 grit paper. I can now use them as new! Problem is..now I only use ployura..watchamacalit...glue to secure the blanks. Better by a mile!! I have no idea how to reclaim those blanks, yet! fwiw, Cheers, Tom -- Remove the 'p' from 'shaw' to e-mail me. |

I just boil the Foul-Ups for about 10 minutes then slit the wood and the
whole business slides right off. That works with CA as well as poly glue. Don "Tom Storey" wrote in message newsJGOc.148324$ek5.63318@pd7tw2no... Foul-up? not me!
