I think the problem is that both TEST and TEST IGNORE are both SHOUTED
statements, try the syntax - is this a test ? - and you will find that you
have succesfully posted that elusive question

Well believe it, I have just tried to post text under a different title and
no joy, then went to send a TEST post and it sends.

Well I'm afraid I don't believe it either!

Are you saying that if your message subject is TEST you can post to
uk.d-i-y, but otherwise you can't?!

What actually happens when it won't send?

What about your post with the subject "TEST IGNORE", which got through;
not to mention the other one you replied to, entitled " OK :-)" ?

Normal messages send as per usual they just dont appear under this
newsgroup. I work in IT for a large retail company, so I know that its not
some stupid thing I have done

Ah, that explains the top-posting ****wittedness.

And typing in uppercase

and a seeming inability to make a simple post to a NG

What I want to know is, which particular large retail company should we
be careful to avoid

IME IT departments within large (non-IT) companies are all very similar.
You'll have a couple of people who have a vague clue, and the rest...

That is why they use IT consultancies to assess their need and put together
a functional spec, and then farm out the expansion/development. They only
know how to drive the system, little else.

Don't you know then it's bad form to top post and to send test messages to
a newsgroup? ;-)

As it happens, I was rooting around in the public.microsoft.* groups
earlier today, and noticed that AFAICS every single one of the Microsoft
MVPs ("Most Valuable Professionals?) who posts on those groups always
top-posts. Weird. Is it a directive from the Mr G to subvert Usenet?

Of course OE sort of directs you to top post by the position of the caret.

Top posting makes some sense on e-mail where you might be expected to
remember what the discussion is.
