could kindly recommend a competent, reputable electrian (or electrical
services company) in my area (Huntingdon/Cambridge).

You might find it more difficult to get an electrician anywhere
now most of them can't do electrical work because they
haven't got a Part P membership yet.

Of course you could DIY, but you'll need to notify your local
building control department...

Ask to speak to the electrical estimator. They undertake everything from
PAT testing to re-wires to large industrial work.
