Anyone fitted fluid master push button toilet conversion kit
The handles on our toilets keep working loose. Might be something to
do with the kids (2 & 4) yanking them up and down when they are trying to flush the loo. I keep re-tightening the plastic nut, but a couple of weeks later its loose again and the handle is flopping about. I noticed a fluid master push button toilet conversion kit at Homebase the other day and was wondering if they really are easy to fit. The blurb on the box makes it look simple enough, but I was wondering if anyone had done it and if they had any tips on possible problems. TIA Alan |

I haven't fitted a 'Fluidmaster Push Button' kit but I did fit a
'Fluidmaster low noise' kit. The push button one comprises of almost the same components. Was a doddle to fit. Turned of mains water supply Flushed toilet to drain existing cistern Laid down old blankets and sheets to soak the majority of the water still in cistern Undid the plastic nut connecting the flush pipe to the cistern (don't know the nuts technical name) Gained one pair of wet trousers Removed the innards of the cistern Replaced with kit Tightened plastic nut Turned on mains water Did a test flush Turned down flush volume by adjusting stopper after water lept out of the pan Job done I'd never messed with toilets and their workings before, would say the job took less than 30 minutes. Hope this helps. Seri "Alan Campbell" wrote in message om... The handles on our toilets keep working loose. Laid down old blankets and sheets to soak the majority of the water still in cistern If you get a suitable length of plastic tube (B&Q sell it in lengths), then you can syphon practically all the water out. TIA Alan I bought one of these a while back with a view to retrofitting all my cisterns. Problem - all my cisterns are ceramic, and the hole where the button goes (the ex-handle hole) was smaller than the thread on the button - by about 3mm. All three of my cisterns are the same - 2 Ideal and 1 Baltocks (? sp.). Had to take mine back for a refund as I was not going to chance opening up the holes in ceramic! Worth checking before you buy. The only tip I can give is - if you need to bend the brass rod, get it roughly right outside the cistern then fine-tune it after fitting (unless you have strong hands). Also you might want to increase the flush volume dial - ours came set half way ("5" I think) which, without going into graphic detail, wasn't enough. "7" seems to equate to a normal syphonic flush. -- Laurie R |

You put this on a thread and then tighten the nut over it, it cures and the nut doesn't come loose. If you need to undo the nut the Nutlock will break free no problem under a bit of duress. A dab of gloss paint on a thread can achieve much the same result. PoP --- If you need to contact me please submit your comments via the web form at http://www.anyoldtripe.co.uk. My dad had this problem when he tried to fit one - 30 seconds with my dremel cured it :-) Another one of those tiny jobs that the dremel is brilliant at. There aren't many but it is dead handy at times. Darren |

: I fitted one and I like it a lot, but I'm a bit concerned (as I'm on a meter) about it failing to shut after flushing. Admittedly it only happened while adjusting on test, but the valve remained partially open and allowed a good flow of water to run away. I'm considering going back to a siphon if I can find a good one. mike r |

When the flow is too great is shuts off. So if your flap does sit well and lost of water of going down the toilet it will shut off. See: http://www.bes.ltd.uk/products/101.asp part No. 13756 Water block is a flood protection system designed to offer a safety device against accidental flooding without the need for electricity. Incorporating a mechanical water meter, it monitors a preset volume of water, when the preset is exceeded the unit will close off the water supply. The re-set device is needed to re-set the water block after the unit has been activated by excess water flow. Fitted with an integral filter system. Can be preset between 5 and 50 litres/minute WRc and TUV approved. Burst pressure : 50 bar Max. working pressure : 10 bar Max. preset volume : 50 litres/minute Min. working flow : 1.5 +/- 0.5 litres/minute Max. water temperature : 70 °C Life expectancy: 300 000 litres Threads: 3/4" BSP F x 3/4" BSP M Worth putting on washing machines and dishwashers. |

One small problem with these is that the reset is done by pressing a plunger that is in the axis of the valve. This means dismantling the plumbing when it operates...... ..andy To email, substitute .nospam with .gl |
