For me the worst aspect is the lack of any piers along the wall, without which makes the wall dangerous of falling and causing injury. |

IIRC the bulk of the action was somewhere on Teesside, not that it alters the story at all. The wall Yosser badly built was filmed in Liverpool. All of the series was made in Liverpool. Offhand, I can't think of a scene set elsewhere. It was the building site of a new hospital at the end of Edgeware Road. :-) Not quite! The hospital is on the other side of the main road. There is no Edgeware Road (nor even an Edgware Road) in Liverpool. Edge Lane? Yes, Edge Lane is a main thoroughfare (the main route into the city from the western end of the M62). At its nearest (ie, at its own western end), Edge Lane is about a quarter of a mile from the location under discussion. The two points are connected by the street known as Hall Lane, plus a bit added on at the northern end to get round to Harper Street. |

I'm actually quire impressed with it it's much better than I could do Yes, I think it has it's good features. It is quite even and the main defect is smearing mortar everywhere. And the fact it will probably fall over in the middle. It could have used a cap, to match the existing wall. If course, real brickies "only like clay brick" and would be unwilling to stray into other media, like a cap. And the mortar job isn't perfect. A real brickie would be emitting a "tsk" with respect to their snap line and not keeping the courses exactly level. Some of the mortar is a bit thicker than others, but if a DIY, it's the quality you would expect of a DIY. A real brickie inherently keeps things level (somehow). A real brickie has a square eye. It's definitely not the worst job I've ever seen. Have you ever had a job done, where the mortar oozes out of the lower courses, as new courses are added during the same day ? That particular job was taken apart, and the brickie builders insurance paid for the redo. Even though the brickie was going to walk away from the job, as if it was "done". With gobs of mortar all over the place. A DIY job wouldn't have been left with gobs of mortar, the gobs of mortar would be smeared over the brick face :-) The normal sin committed, is the brickie is good at what he does, but he "hires a neighbour kid for cash" to mix the mortar. And some of that hired help is as dumb as a brick post. The brickie will not come down a ladder and correct the lad, when he ****s up. I was surprised at the dynamic, that there was not more "apprenticeship" expressed. The lad has explained to him, what to do, first thing in the morning, and then the brickie just keeps accepting buckets of mortar, no matter how poorly mixed. Since a brickie is quite critical of anyone elses workmanship, you'd think he would stomp the kid for mixing slop. Paul |
