I would not put bitumen paint on anything visible, once you put it on you are stuck with it and any paint beside will bleed. When you say cladding do you mean on the outside of a building/house and how do you know it is leaking, damp on the interior of the wall? Cladding should have sarking behind it to prevent penetrating damp if that is damaged then the answer is strip the cladding and replace it. If this is a hut or timber building then the answer is the same. For unpainted timber there are a number of water repellent treatments but if painted I would suggest a good sand down and fill before repainting. You really need to explain what this cladding is on and how does the leaking appear and where?

Do you mean that its planked or just some decorative stuff? Where is it
leaking to exactly?
Would not it look a bit odd as that paint tends to be a little rough, and
if its like a shed, its probably getting in between the joins anywhere. At
least this post is not 10 years old which they tend to be from that web
site.
