Default Cleaning 20p pieces covered in hydraulic fluid mixed with a bit of brass swarf

Well the washing up bowl with hot water and Fairy liquid made a big
difference but the 20p pieces are sill a little oil covered (and still
smell of the stuff) and some swarf is still there. Some of it might be
ferrous not brass.

Any tips?

I would try a bit of IPA or acetone as they would remove oil and
water-based material, followed by washing in water.

Spend them and let somebody else worry about it!
I would have thought it would wear off in time. I assume you have tried coka

Yes the mind boggles to be honest. Why only 20ps?
They are one of the few coins we use which are non ferrous. I have 1, 2,
5,and 10p pieces, some of which you can pick up with a magnet, and some you
cannot, but the 20ps are never magnetic.

Washing soda.

They weigh 5 grams exactly. You could sell them as weights.

Ask your bank to exchange them for you? They can send damaged coins back
to the mint for replacement.

Petrol is about the cheapest decent solvent for most oils.

Detergent, solvent or mechanical.
Detergent: most will work. If not wul, try something else.
Solvent: planty to choose from. I tend to prefer paraffin. It's cheap, thin, safe, still usable with the added oil, and traces left evaporate off in a few days.
Mechanical: paper is all that's needed. The end result will burn nicel.y

Save the non-magnetic ones, Brian. The way inflation is heading
they will be worth more as metal than their face value.

be vigilant with those. If you chuck in a few handfuls of 'copper'
then it will undercount. You need to drip feed them in slowly.
