Cleaning 20p pieces covered in hydraulic fluid mixed with a bit of brass swarf
Well the washing up bowl with hot water and Fairy liquid made a big
difference but the 20p pieces are sill a little oil covered (and still smell of the stuff) and some swarf is still there. Some of it might be ferrous not brass. Any tips? -- Adam |

Yes the mind boggles to be honest. Why only 20ps?
They are one of the few coins we use which are non ferrous. I have 1, 2, 5,and 10p pieces, some of which you can pick up with a magnet, and some you cannot, but the 20ps are never magnetic. Some of it might be ferrous not brass. Any tips? Detergent, solvent or mechanical. Detergent: most will work. If not wul, try something else. Solvent: planty to choose from. I tend to prefer paraffin. It's cheap, thin, safe, still usable with the added oil, and traces left evaporate off in a few days. Mechanical: paper is all that's needed. The end result will burn nicel.y NT |

Save the non-magnetic ones, Brian. The way inflation is heading
they will be worth more as metal than their face value. Andrew On 15/08/2020 08:23, Brian Gaff (Sofa) wrote: Yes the mind boggles to be honest. Why only 20ps? If you chuck in a few handfuls of 'copper' then it will undercount. You need to drip feed them in slowly. |
