I thought "how the F do you expect the emergency services to find you if you need an ambulance in a hurry?". A lot of people are too attached to the property name because it 'adds value to the property' and refuse to use the number that the Post Office Address File has allocated to the property. House numbers are allocated by the District Council (or Equivalent). The Post Office simply makes use of them. Here, it is an offence not to display your house number. -- We don't have one, ;-) and quite right too... near here there is a road full of big posh houses with names only ....too posh obviously to have numbers.....I had to visit a named house one day in pre-computer times and being in Building control I could have just looked up the OS map before I left but why should I I thought I had a building warrant with location plan?....I spent a happy hour trying to find the house on a beautiful summers day.....I eventually found it and was very late for the appointment.....told the bloke it was because the street was long and had no numbers and what did he expect? and his location plan with the building warrant drawings didn't help because it just showed the adjacent posh houses with their names... |
