NT We were still on a Lister Startomatic 1.5 kW generator when Mother got her first washing machine a twin tub. She could not use the heating element for a couple of years until the mains arrived, meanwhile it was filled with hot water heated by the kitchen range. GH |

We had one made almost entirely out of wood. Before that, washing was "boiled up" agitated with a "posser". Before that. it was beaten on stones. Still is in some places. "Soap flakes" was the detergent. |
