Cheap, takes detail but very low strength and a crap surface finish. Some people collect Dinky Toys, pre WW2 ones in even quite battered condition fetch fairly high prices as the mix to form the alloy wasnt very good and even if one was left untouched it still cracked into pieces due to metal fatigue setting in so one that managed not to self destruct may be a rare survivor. PostWW2 they were not perfect but had improved enough to last the time of most childhoods. This prewar tram is a typical example of one with problems. https://goo.gl/images/1KJ12D Didnt the term start with the metal being used to make cheap souvenirs trinkets in India etc during the time of British rule many of which would have been of Monkeys? They were at the bottom end of the market with the better ones being made of Brass or Bronze. GH |
