To survive selling airplane wings with no fuselage, gearboxes without engines or services that are not licenced in Europe is going to take quite a bit of doing. Odd that companies like Senior Engineering and others, seem to do just that and have done so for years. The undercarriage on many Boeing planes are made right here in Gloucestershire. Internal cabin fitouts are done by a couple of companies. Lots more because Boeing recognise that they have to spread manufacturing around many of the countries that buy their planes. |

I,m well aware of it. I have actually spent quite a lot of time on site there, I assume you mean Messier Dowty? Not exactly the most phenominal throughput, so I don't know what planes they cater for. As the site appears to have a similar type of layout to Dara and some parts of Broughton, I assume it was tied to WW2 production and has found a niche. Airbus really does produce serious quantities of wings though and any disruption to their shipments or cost increases will undoubtably have risks. There are plenty of opportunities for ex staff to dress up as Romans and show tourists around Chester though. Working abroad on aircraft maintenance/ manufacturing plants, I have noticed that the last place I went to was a new build and was in a "freezone" Not a good choice for business if you have free movement anyway just a hundred miles or so accrss the "puddle". Well it will in so far as Boeing are committed to spreading even more work especially to the UK and right now Boeing are a better bet than Airbus who are liable to a massive fine by the WTO for illegal state aid and are to be severely impacted if not dragged down by the airbus A380. -- bert |
