We have some early cine film of me, aged about 6, discovering an old Ford
Popular/Anglia/Prefect on the disused railway line near Thorner (*), and
having great fun pretending to drive it. My dad found an old tool set in the
boot and still has some of the spanners and screwdrivers that were in it.

When we went on holiday to a caravan site near West Witton in Wensleydale, I
found an old quarry pit that was full of dumped cars, went back for my
screwdriver and liberated a few speedos etc that I adorned my "den" with
when we got back from holiday. While I was there, a chap drove up with an
Austin 1100 on the back of a tractor trailer, and my dad and I help him push
it into the gully - it made a very satisfying crash as it hit the bottom. We
didn't think about the possibility that there may have been any other little
boys in the cars in the gully who might have been crushed by the falling
car. That was in the late 60s.

We didn't have cancer back then. Enjoying cigarettes and booze with no

the freedom to darwinate oneself is one thing, unfortunately those idiots killed others & ruined other people's lives as well. No sensible person would want to go back to the time they were trying to kill themselves & others on the roads.

That will be news to my Mum who had to arrange the funerals of my Dad and
her Mother within six weeks of each other after watching them both die from
Cancers , at one point they were together in the same Hospital but the
wards were single sex in those days so we visited one and then moved onto
the other.

I was too young to appreciate what was really going on.

The only thing that will give you a short happy life is that you are happy for a short time and you die. I don't think anyone would choose this option..

Very very odd that you are so free with your thoughts and advice on just
how the world should be run, but not capable of running your own life well.
I'm very sorry for you.

Perhaps you should join Momentum. They seem to be mostly a happy bunch on

certainly not down a windy lane.

I knew a scout leader who didn't drink, didn't smoke and never used rude
words, but drove a Mini Cooper full of kids at incredible speeds down
windy Welsh lanes. Clearly not 100mph, but quite fast enough.

I knew a scout leader who didn't drink, didn't smoke and never used rude
words, but drove a Mini Cooper full of kids at incredible speeds down
windy Welsh lanes. Clearly not 100mph, but quite fast enough.

Did he do anything else with kids in a mini ?
