Painting column radiators

We've got three or four column radiators (three columns deep) that were knocked about a bit during building work and that could do with a spruce up.

I don't want to remove them from the wall because they weigh a ton, I don't want to drain them etc

My existing plan is:

Clean off all dust, then wash and then wipe down with white spirit
Mask wall, floor, cat etc up with newspaper and tape
Spray it with radiator paint
Hey, done!

Now this looks pretty easy, which makes me worried.

Any top tips for painting them in situ?

Unless you can persuade aerosolised paint to bend round corners you will only be able to spray what's in line-of-sight of the spray nozzle.

You may need an extension nozzle on a very slim tube to be able to spray from 'inside' the columns.

white spirit is the wrong stuff. Detergent works, and bulk use of white spirit indoors is a hazard.

Most of the ones I've seen refurbished were dipped in some kind of paint so
one supposes they had to have been taken out first as dipping the whole
building would need a very big tank of paint!

I thought detergent interfered with adhesion and that sugar soap
should be used to prepare for painting.

If they are cast iron. you certainly don't want to move them.
They may well leak at the joints.

Thanks for the advice folks.

I suspected I was being optimistic. Least conspicuous radiator first...
