Default Way O T - What are they Doing?

Hi all

Recently we have noticed strange behaviour outside our house.
Around 10:45pm, two cars pull up and park. 3 or 4 Indian gents get
out of the cars in distinctive clothing and skull caps. They all
get into a third car which drives away.

I am not sure what time they return, but all vehicles have gone by
early morning.
Is this something to do with Ramadan or other religious event?

I do not know if there are other people nearby of the same
persuasion, but they certainly don't live opposite.
My wife reckons this is not "normal" behaviour and suspects some
wrong doings!

We are usually tucked up by the time they arrive, so doing the
obvious and asking what they are about hasn't been convenient
thus far.

Any suggestions on this strange carry on?

Phil

Distinctive clothing in what sense?

Write down the registration numbers and ask the police.

14.2% of India's population or roughly 172 million people are Muslim (wikipedia)

Probably applies to a fair number of Indian people here too. Lots of the 'Indian' restaurants have the Halal food symbol on their doors.

Quite. 6 out of 7 aren't. Which makes it unlikely.

Most of the "Indian" restaurants in the UK are run by Bangladeshis, which
is 87% Muslim.

That's because most "Indian" restaurants are run by people from Bangladesh.

It's a bit later than sunset, when they can break their fast, but some
Muslims do say extra night prayers

If the O/P hasn't spoken to them, he's not that likely to know whether

As they do not seem to be going into a neighbours property before leaving
together and as I know where Phil lives and therefore the layout of his
street then it is almost certainly so they can park up and not be viewed
from the front of the house.

I would not call this normal behavour ie parking up like that on a cul de
sac with plenty of other parking on the estate before you to get to Phil's.

At that time of night? Why pass all the other safe places to park on Phil's

More likely to be going to a brothel than to work.

Take photographs, and pass to neighbourhood watch.
If they see you doing it, and vanish rapidly, pass to police

I used top pass all sorts of photos to neighbourhood watch. Mainly scrap

were a lot of thefts by 'men in pickup trucks'

A pub I used to visit frequently (I rented an old stable they had for
storage) had a couple drive in separate cars every Thursday evening
about 6.30pm and park up. The drive a bloke in his sixties and a woman
about half that would then depart in the blokes car. They never
entered the pub which annoyed of the publican as well as using his car
park they returned about 1 am and woke him up with sound of the cars
and there doors being shut as they left.

After a few months of this the assembled bar committee came up with
the wheeze to put an Advert in the local free ads paper.

To the Drivers of Black BMW 123 XYZ and White Ford Escort 321 ZYZ
who visit the Dog and Duck car park at small village every Thursday
evening. It would be really nice if you came in and said hello.

Next week there was no visit. whether that was coincidence or the AD
had been seen and triggered a domestic incident we would never know.

Possibly, but they don't do anything special that late, just eat
while its still dark. Doesn't fit with the skull caps or Indians either.

Cant think of any Indian religious event that fits either.

More likely they are just doing shift work somewhere
with significant travel involved so it makes sense to
car share like that.

We are usually tucked up by the time they arrive,
so doing the obvious and asking what they are
about hasn't been convenient thus far.

Why can't you ask them in the evening ?

Any suggestions on this strange carry on?

Bet its just shift work a fair distance away.

Those aren't likely to be Indians. And they aren't likely to be terrorists
either because that would make them stand out too much.

TinyURL is your friend http://tinyurl.com/jougpyx Not that they narrow
things down much. Those skull-caps cover almost all the world's major

all in there!

But they are most likely muslims given they look to him like Indians.

Yep, bet that is what is happening and bet
it will continue once Ramadam finishes too.

To go to work? Leave the unused cars in the safest place/neighbourhood.

At that time of night?

Yep, plenty of shift work like that.

Why pass all the other safe places to park on Phil's nice estate?

Cul de sacs would be my choice too.

More likely to be going to a brothel than to work.

Unlikely to be bothering to lift share to one.

MYOB they are probably meeting at a convenient spot for parking then commuting in one car to save fuel. Most people working for low wages make efforts like that.
Kudos for them being willing to work crappy hours and travel long distances to pay 18-plus quid a week on top of tax toward the NHS for the privilege of not seeing their families.

Possibly, but they don't do anything special that late, just eat while its
still dark. Doesn't fit with the skull caps or Indians either.

Cant think of any Indian religious event that fits either.

More likely they are just doing shift work somewhere with significant
travel involved so it makes sense to car share like that.
We are usually tucked up by the time they arrive, so doing the obvious
and asking what they are about hasn't been convenient thus far.

Why can't you ask them in the evening ?

Because they are not there in the evening. They turn up at 10.45 pm and go
early morning

FFS they are lift sharing, that is all.

Lift sharing to go and do what?. See my other post.

Maybe they're going to a secret booze up. :-)

to do with Ramadan? very likely but also none of your business,

It becomes my business when one of the cars with a loud exhaust
parks under my bedroom window and wakes me up in the
process.

This is a village location which makes sleepy hollow look like a
rave. If you visit the village it is to meet a resident, there
is nothing here.

I have a DIY solution to get rid of them:-)

Expanding foam up the exhaust pipes and a couple of caltrops thrown under
their tyres whilst they are parked up.

Hi Adam

Never heard of a caltrop, but I had been mindful of the Eddie
Murphy version of your other suggestion the "banana in the tail
pipe".

They don’t wear skull caps much in Britain.
