OT(ish) - Amazon prices and review sites
I happen to be looking for a new HDD and am pricing up 3TB WD Red.
Two review sites claim an Amazon price of around £82 but when I click through I get a price of around £88. Just wondering if the price jumps during the day, or if the price comparison sites lie about when they last checked. Or if there is a secret button to press to get a deal. They were £82 back in January, £88 seems right at the moment. http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/Desktop-Hard-Drive-Intellipower-Cache/product/B008JJLW4M?context=browse |

No idea why the retail box version has suddenly dropped in price. Cheers Dave R -- Windows 8.1 on PCSpecialist box |

You're merely experiencing the misfortune of missing the last dip, just over 6 months ago, in the price per GB of HDD storage. The price of the WD 6TB Green has shot up some £14.67 since the end of September last year (Scan Computers pricing - an upward trend repeated by *all* vendors). I'm lucky in that, despite the used capacity percentage figures of the four drives in my NAS box now showing as 97, 98, 99 and 100, I've still got a few hundred GB of spare capacity and the means to half the size of the mpeg2 files still comprising the bulk of the stored data faster than I'm burning it up with fresh freeview recordings. That means I can sit it out a lot longer than the HDD supply chain can (IOW, the suppliers will be the first to blink *this* time). :-) -- Johnny B Good |
