TOT; Zapping adverts

Yes they sound pretty unconvincing don't they.
The other ones that get on my wick are the vehicle adverts. Modified old pop songs, sexual innuendos, and completely silent sound tracks except for swishing noises and a slogan at the end. I also wonder about all the cosmetic adverts do. Brian "David Lang" wrote in message ... Most of the time I pause a show I want to watch as it starts, then go and make a cup of tea or have a fag. Simply because then I can zap through the bloody stupid adverts for ****e I have no interest in. I appreciate that adverts pay for TV, but according to the ad agencies my practice isn't common. They maintain that the majority of people watch them - but they would, wouldn't they? Am I alone in doing this? Worst ad on TV has to be that 118 118 bunch of scumbags - I wouldn't deal with them under any circumstances and if I ever met those two ****s I would simply have to punch them. -- Dave - The Medway Handyman -- ----- - This newsgroup posting comes to you directly from... I guess the visually impaired aren't their top demographic Brian and apart from the rare good one I promise you you aren't missing much. ;-) And hasn't 'sex' always been (as in historically) synonymous with selling all sorts of vehicles, from cars, to motorbikes or even agricultural equipment? And lets face it, that is no less relevant it seems than all the other fantasy and imagery they seem to think are important to 'us' ... driving along empty and twisty roads in countryside versus the reality of nose to tail traffic for 2 hours every day. Dunno about that, but I am regularly amazed how many people *pay* for a service (Sky ?) and *still* receive ads through it. I guess having been bought up paying for a newspaper - and the ads in it - it seems normal. I'd be curious if it's a practice that will continue as the younger generation start paying. It's never happen, but I wonder how successful a Sky/Virgin "no ads" package would be ? Probably not very, depending on how much revenue they would need to make up. But as viewing shifts to streamed/on demand then maybe more so, plenty of people pay for Netflix, Amazon Video etc. And shift it surely must, we watch no broadcast TV really, it's pretty much all streamed (mostly iPlayer and Netflix and for the youngest daughter, as much YouTube as we will let her eat it would seem)), some downloaded, and few DVD's. Gut feeling is that lots of our friends with similar families - mostly 40+, kids, teenagers, have similar viewing habits. Used to record stuff on the PC, but then something broke with that and I've not go round to sorting it. But most stuff is easily torrented anyway. Hard to see our kids bothering with broadcast TV when the are adults. -- -- Chris French ----Android NewsGroup Reader---- http://usenet.sinaapp.com/ |
