Nope. I record loads of films, edit out the adverts, and store them on
my media server.

And likely never watch them.

It only takes 10 minutes viewing at the most to decide if it is a PVR keep, to be fast forwarded through later or erased.

Yes they sound pretty unconvincing don't they.
The other ones that get on my wick are the vehicle adverts. Modified old
pop songs, sexual innuendos, and completely silent sound tracks except for
swishing noises and a slogan at the end.

I also wonder about all the cosmetic adverts do.

I have no interest in.

I appreciate that adverts pay for TV, but according to the ad agencies my
practice isn't common. They maintain that the majority of people watch
them - but they would, wouldn't they?

Am I alone in doing this?

Worst ad on TV has to be that 118 118 bunch of scumbags - I wouldn't deal
with them under any circumstances and if I ever met those two ****s I
would simply have to punch them.

I guess the visually impaired aren't their top demographic Brian and
apart from the rare good one I promise you you aren't missing much.
;-)

And hasn't 'sex' always been (as in historically) synonymous with
selling all sorts of vehicles, from cars, to motorbikes or even
agricultural equipment?

And lets face it, that is no less relevant it seems than all the other
fantasy and imagery they seem to think are important to 'us' ...
driving along empty and twisty roads in countryside versus the reality
of nose to tail traffic for 2 hours every day.

But you know who they are and what 118 is. And if you are ever stuck
needing a directory enquiry I bet that's the first number that will
come to mind hate them or not.

I don't I did (consciously), or didn't for a while till being reminded
here. ;-)

It isn't in my mind for two reasons:

1) I can't remember the last time I ever used *any* directory
enquiries for anything or would think to if I needed a number. I think
I'd probably text someone who might already have the number or could
look it up online for me (as I often do for others).

2) I so much dislike 118 118 adverts I seem to mentally block out any
association they have with anything (like not ever using 'Go compare'
because of that singing). I even had to just look at the text above to
make sure I got the number right. ;-)

I think some have suggested than these 'bad' adverts work because it
get's people talking about them. Whilst it might, it also certainly
does a good job of pushing at least this potential customer away.

Dunno about that, but I am regularly amazed how many people *pay* for a
service (Sky ?) and *still* receive ads through it. I guess having been
bought up paying for a newspaper - and the ads in it - it seems normal.

I'd be curious if it's a practice that will continue as the younger
generation start paying.

It's never happen, but I wonder how successful a Sky/Virgin "no ads"
package would be ?

Probably not very, depending on how much revenue they would need
to make up.

But as viewing shifts to streamed/on demand then maybe more so,
plenty of people pay for Netflix, Amazon Video etc. And shift it
surely must, we watch no broadcast TV really, it's pretty much
all streamed (mostly iPlayer and Netflix and for the youngest
daughter, as much YouTube as we will let her eat it would seem)),
some downloaded, and few DVD's. Gut feeling is that lots of our
friends with similar families - mostly 40+, kids, teenagers,
have similar viewing habits. Used to record stuff on the PC, but
then something broke with that and I've not go round to sorting
it. But most stuff is easily torrented anyway.

Hard to see our kids bothering with broadcast TV when the are adults.
