I'm surprised that some of you have time to DIY judging by the number
of posts to this group many of you make.

Some of us post while waiting for the glue to dry before we do the next bit.

Anyway, posting here *is* d-i-y. It's research and decision-making which is a big part of d-i-y. If I wanted to spend 8 hours a day plastering I'd be a plasterer, not a d-i-y-er.

Some of them are too old and grumpy to do anything but talk about it now

Well I installed linux on a laptop, wrote an extension to gridwatch, and
replaced a couple of lightbulbs over the holiday.

The biggest threat to humanity comes from socialism, which has utterly
diverted our attention away from what really matters to our existential
survival, to indulging in navel gazing and faux moral investigations
into what the world ought to be, whilst we fail utterly to deal with
what it actually is.

But that is no match for John's ever so humbling project.

Well I did build an entire house in 2000/2003 and I am still exhausted
from that.

That is even more humbling. Just wondering if John could've done it quicker

How many natural philosophers does it take to change a light bulb?

Well none, because the concept of light, bulb, and change are in fact
abstractions placed on the infinite Unity that includes the Natural
Philosopher, so in fact the lightbulb and te natural philosopher are
only separate in the mind of the observer. In reality the light bulb
changeses itself and the natural philosopher merely watches the
simulation of himself being involved ;-)

One to hold the bulb, and a legion to try and rotate the world?

Can I put my own vote in for middle aged and knackered?

Sorry to disappoint you, but being young you haven't earned the right to be
grumpy. You'll have to settle for young and petulant.

Is 61 old or middle aged? I've been practising hard for years and I
can't wait to be proper old and grumpy.

Actually I hate DIY having worked with my hands until I was nearly
insane I feel physically ill when I smell the inside of a toolbag these
days. I was however so good at it and gained such wisdom that I think
it's only right to share some advice now and then.

That's very sad. I'm not looking forward to not being able to DIY for
whatever reason and have to get a 'man' in for all those tasks I presently
do myself.

I know quite a few who never DIY and seem to be in a constant battle
trying to get a job finished or done properly by 'pros'. Perhaps it's just
the area I live in.

I've not seen anyone that comes anywhere near so much posting time that they don't have time for anything else (except perhaps Rod Speed).

Who does a hell of a lot more DIY than almost anyone in here.
