Default Wiki links to Usenet higher up and at left please

Looking at the usenet wiki first page
http://wiki.diyfaq.org.uk/index.php?title=Main_Page
theres a link to google groups
but not one to the newsgroup
uk.d-i-y
I wonder how many people visit the wiki
and dont discover the usenet
(from the days before web browers i think)

Actually if i scroll down i find it at:
[See the newsgroup access tips to learn more and find out how you can
participate. ]
linking to :
http://wiki.diyfaq.org.uk/index.php?...up_access_tips

But Jakob Nielson says most people dont look at a page for more than a
few seconds when theyre searching for relevance.

So I suggest we add a link to the newsgroup far higher up the page,
and to the left column.

[george]

PS Ive been having very intermittent newsgroup access but now I hope
theyve fixed it at my ISP Entanet / Headweb

The newsgroup is rather heavily mentioned in the "About this wiki & uk.d-i-y"
section of the front page.

If you were thinking about a link as in
a href="news:uk.d-i-y"newsgroup/a
that's essentially useless - it depends on people having a newsreader
configured and listening for news: URLs. Most people won't have that these
days, which means that such a link is just confusing and a waste of time.

You can put the link to Google Groups higher up, but the interface is
increasingly broken these days, so perhaps not something to be encouraged.

Probably worth noting that the link to the group via GG is also the
first entry on the external links section of the sidebar...

Have a look now, see if you prefer that.

Like you say it should really be in the top left area.

Google groups... its perfectly usable, and people looking for info can get to us via it. Anyone that wants to get involved will soon find out other options.

At risk of being condemned for hierarchy,
Google Groups is the right place to point the uninitiated.
