Best option for spray finishing MDF, Ply and wood project?
I am currently working on the mother of all bookcases: http://wiki.diyfaq.org.uk/index.php?...AndShelves.png (its about 8' wide and 9'6" tall - and so far has used about ten 10x8 sheets of material and a shed load of softwood) Made from mainly MDF and ply sheet materials with softwood doors, face frame, lippings, mouldings etc. The intention is to give it a white painted finish - either satin or gloss. Given the size and mix of materials I quite fancy spraying it rather than spending days with a brush. Any recommendations for suitable primer and paint products? I have a variety of air spray guns and a compressor that is just about up to it, or would be prepared to invest in a HVLP setup if necessary. -- Cheers, John. /================================================== ===============\ | Internode Ltd - http://www.internode.co.uk | |-----------------------------------------------------------------| | John Rumm - john(at)internode(dot)co(dot)uk | \================================================= ================/ |

Long time since I did any spraying but internal corners are going to be difficult with air induced. Presumably the shelves can be lifted out and done separately. Should you consider taking it to a specialist or hiring *pressure pot* kit? -- Tim Lamb |

Yup, let's hope the floor is up to it! Long time since I did any spraying but internal corners are going to be difficult with air induced. I also plan to do the bulk of the painting before its put together (its basically built from six boxes that will sit on a built in place and levelled plinth). Should you consider taking it to a specialist or hiring *pressure pot* kit? Taking it from the workshop to the lounge is going to be a big enough job! -- Cheers, John. /================================================== ===============\ | Internode Ltd - http://www.internode.co.uk | |-----------------------------------------------------------------| | John Rumm - john(at)internode(dot)co(dot)uk | \================================================= ================/ |
