Default PV panels

i was just reading that in the week before 12 Dec (50% tariff cut),
30,000 new PV installations were registered.
The week after, installations fell by 97%.

Strewth:

"While the high installation figures leading up to December 12 are a
worry budget-wise, they are also extremely encouraging. They showcase
just how passionate the UK is about solar technology (and here I don’t
just refer to those making a profit from the installations, I also
allude to the energy-conscious consumer)."

Just who is he trying to kid? Surely if anything the figures
demonstrate that that the uk has no passion for the technology at all,
and simply wanted to get its snout in the trough.

"Of course, solar has become a fantastic profit-making business, but
does that really mean it should be viewed by the British public as a
greed-fuelled industry?"

Erm, yes I think so.

Quite agree, especially when you compare it with the fairly flat 2 to
3,000/week for the rest of the year until the 12/12 FIT reduction
date was announced. I wonder how many of those installations actually
exist? IIRC you couldn't register until the installation was complete
and ready to go online. If the industry can "install" 30,000 in a
week what on earth was it doing only putting in 2 or 3,000/week for
the rest of the year.

I hope who ever is in charge of verifying these registrations goes
through all those made since the announcement of the FIT reduction
with a fine toothed comb. If there is an abilty to "preregister" I
hope they also make sure that the install is done before that expires
if not they should not be on the old 40 odd p/unit FIT but the new
21p one.

Aye, now if this was MP's expenses...

Well I doubt they're all as perfectly aligned as harry's, that one
somewhere in Sheffield that Bill Wright pointed out a few weeks back,
should theoretically milk 636kWh/year/kW capacity, assume all those
installs are 3kW capacity

30,000 * 25 years * 636 * 0.43 * 3 = £615 million (index linked) onto
fuel bills, just for the arrays fitted that week.

In this case the Sun is right on that point. It has very low
rainfall, less cloud cover and thus higher sun hours than places
further south.

It was also the hottest place in the UK during the mini heatwave in
October, except the met office no longer recognise the weather station
at the airport despite it being perfectly acceptable to them for the
past fifty years or so.
