Where are all these supposed jobs for the masses in e.g. the welsh
valleys that you seem to think exist?

We had woollen mill after woollen mill around here, now there's just one.
Did the spinners and weavers sit on their backsides and look for
handouts? No, they got off said backsides and reinvented themselves into
new employment making, for example, turbine blades for jet engines
(including those for the late, much lamented Concorde) and air
conditioning that's exported to the Middle East.

It can be done if you've a bit of pride and got the right attitude.

ITYM that "attracted by a cheap workforce and massive government subsidy
many employers moved to South Wales". Sadly to do so those same companies
ditched their workforce elsewhere in the UK.

No, perhaps I didn't make it clear, I'm in Yorkshire, 'home' of the
woollen industry.

No subsidies, just pride, a decent work ethic, and a refusal to expect
someone else to sort out the problem.

You'll never guess where I live

The fine worsted industry dead.

Ditto Ready made clothing,

Ditto Government clothing -official uniforms
