My Father had a couple of allotments .. and as a committee, they got hold of
a single cylinder diesel engine form a scrap yard & water pump .. (I
remember turning a large Vee pulley to reduce revs on pump.
Provided anybody with water on site, all they had to do was start engine,
and it supplied reasonable pressure to as number of stand pipes .. and then
hoses to the plots
