Referendum
"Mark" wrote in message ... On Mon, 2 May 2011 13:05:21 +0100, "Thumper" I'll be voting No because it is actually the fairer system. Each voter gets 1 vote, votes are added up, candidate with most votes is the winner. Can't get more fairer than that. I totally disagree. Under FPTP if you don't vote for the eventual winner than your vote is thrown away and counts for nothing, even if your candidate got only 1 less vote than the winner. A government could be elected with a majority of seats having less votes than another party. If you happen to vote for one of the losing candidates it's just tough. Get over it! With AV the supporters of extremist and single issue parties will often get their votes counted several times, No, no, no. You have the option of transferring your vote if your higher preference candidate is eliminated. This is not the same as having your vote "counted" more than once. You don't really have an "option" to transfer your vote; it just happens if your first choice was the eliminated candidate. So that's your choices counted twice. |
