Default old skule wiring practice - 3 core & earth to bathroom fans

int good ole days was it permissible to wire a bathroom fan (from
lights, via 3 pole iso switch) in 1.5mm2 T&E plus another single core
(w outer grey sheath) to make up the numbers of conductors??

or is that a bodge and needs sorting?
