Default ping Tony Bryer (portal frame query)

Is there a roof pitch beyond which portal frame becomes impractical?

As mentioned here before, I am approaching the point where I need to
install a supporting frame inside an existing Victorian barn. The loft
eaves height is only 1.6m so an eaves tie beam would be a serious
inconvenience.
