They haven't crossed the streams yet, that's expected in a few weeks.

Cue Ghostbusters jokes...

Seriously, they're only running a single beam today. Don't think anyone[1]
expects anything to happen, I guess it's part of initial machine testing
prior to the real experimentation.

[1] Except the media who have trouble grasping any basic concept let alone a
really difficult one.

Cheers

It stopped raining!

I would have thought they could have had a Big Brother contestant - or Kerry
Katona to have switched it on. Think of the coverage in Hello and OK
magazines. That would make science popular.

Beam was successfully circulated at 9.24am this morning (in one direction
but it means the machine works).

Well they haven't yet actually smashed anything..just bringing the
accelerator up. To get them to collide a couple of beams may take a few
days more.

And interesting, or even a little worrying, to see:

"switched on this morning (following an initial hiccup which appeared to be
fixed by the traditional expedient of turning it off then on again)."

.... so the system's running under Windoze then? Come the day they get up to
full power and produce the collision it will be a case of:

"Windows has detected a new particle in your system and will now restart
your computer^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H the world"

Incey-wincey, a spider,
Got trapped inside the collider.
His legs, eight, articulated,
Were instantly particulated.
