Hi,
What is the best way to sand parquet flooring (drum sander?) and the best finishing product to use when sanded on very high traffic areas ? I have done normal floor boards hard/soft wood but never parquet! Cheers Chris ** Posted from http://www.teranews.com ** |

I was thinking about the grain, but then if I work down to a fine sanding sheet,I can't see a problem. Will finish it of with 3 coats of polyurethane buffing between coats with one of the green type floor scrubbers on a buffing machine. Drum sanders will sand the floor, but you stand a much greater chance of screwing it up. I would at least try and find a belt rather than drum sander (drum sanders are a bit dinosaur, these days - hired out by generic hire companies rather than floor sanding specialists). The orbital type (like the Trio) would be much better for your job - but hey, it's your floor. Good luck. |

Very easy to use and very flat, smooth, level finish. Most floor sanding specialist offer 'em. Probably not too good at chewing through much depth of wood, e.g. if you have sticky up blocks or even worse, dipped blocks... Worth the extra cost over a drum or belt sander. You'll probably also want an edge sander and possibly a corner sander. I used Bona Mega (water based lacquer) to finish. Didn't bother with a primer at the recommendation of a professional. Doesn't give you a polished finish if that's what you're looking for though. Easy to apply with a roller and can comfortably do 5 coats in a day. No need to buff. I believe Bona Traffic is harder wearing. Bought mine from www.bona1stopshop.co.uk since they have quite a good offer on for Mega at the moment. 1 litre will do roughly one coat of 10sq.m.
