Default what type of adhesive should I use for a splashback?

Hi

I need to replace my damaged splashback behind the kitchen sink. The
existing splashback is made of standard laminated chipboard. Can
anyone recommend a brand of strong adhesive that is suitable for this
job? Does the adhesive need to be water resistant?

Thanks in advance.

J
