Default Draper R850V Router failed speed control (power electronics question)

I have a Draper R850V router. After many years use the speed control failed
this morning.

Taking off the top to reveal the "gubbins" I see all the control electronics
is potted in resin.

My instinct is to change the Triac (BTB12) as I reckon this must have
failed.

Is this a good diagnosis? Could it be something else?

I don't see that a repair I do can be any other than a bit of a
bodge.....are there people out there who sell the whole control assembly?

Pic he http://www.hernibles.com/router.jpg

TIA for any help or opinions.

David

Thanks for confirming my thought. Well the Triac is a BTB12-600BW

Went to Maplins and the closest match I could find was BTA16-600B so at
£1.60 I purchased it!

Doesn't work at all now (previously full speed only. No speed control!)

I believe the issue is the "W" so will order the exact correct component and
see if that makes a difference.

Have now discovered Draper web site has parts lists and exploded diagrams.
Fantastic! Rather than fanny about with soldering irons I'll email them and
buy the whole PCB.
