Damp around socket
Hi,
A couple of years ago I sunk a one-gang socket into the external wall of my kitchen to take a flush-mounted telephone socket. I've just noticed that the emulsion immediately around the socket is starting to bubble. The wall was treated for damp a while back, and I guess that by chopping out the masonry for the socket I've removed the waterproofed render that was behind that bit of plaster thereby (a) letting some dampness thorough, and (b) proving once again that injecting silicon stuff is a lot of hocus pocus and all that cures the damp is the new waterproof render. Anyway, clearly I should have put up with a wall-mounted telephone socket, but too late for that. My idea for a short-term bodge is to put a plastic surround around the socket to hide the bubbly bit. I could have sworn that I've seen this sort of thing, but I can't find anything on Google, any pointers? Also, any longer term solutions? Cheers, Martin |
