Hi,
Need to put up new fence and have decided to use concrete fence posts. The posts are 8ft high - fence panels are 6ftX6ft and gravelboard 6inches high. The books states 2ft deep hole but by doing this the top of the fence panels will be higher than the top of the posts. My question is whether an 18inch deep hole would suffice or should i get 9ft posts and dig a much deeper hole. Thanks in advance |

Depends on your soil conditions and wind exposure - but even 2 feet
sounds shallow for a six foot solid panel fence. 18ins and they might shift if someone leans on them! I was advised by the fencing company to set the post in concrete as deep underground as I could get it. |

Thanks in advance You should get away with it if you are generous with the concrete around the posts: you are concreting them in? Why not dig the hole 2 feet deep, then fill with 6" of concrete, then add the post and add the rest of the concrete? Are you in an exposed position? Andy. Andy. |

Thanks in advance =============================== If you haven't already bought the panels etc. shop around for different sizes. Gravel boards are usually 12" high and you can get 6' x 5' panels to make a total height of 6'.
