Attic Conversion
id like to replace the old wooden frame for the new one IF this is
possible? basicly to create alot more room for storage etc. It can be done, but will be quite a serious operation. The joists and rafters may need strengthening, depending on their current sizes. Purlins will have to be added where you have shown the top of the vertical studs. You may need to incorporate a ridge board or beam. You will need a structural engineer to spec out the sizes and it will all have to go through building control. When you get the structural engineer in, specify that you want the joists to be to full habitable spec. Then you can convert the attic to a proper habitable room in the future. You could even get them to specify modifications for roof lights whilst you're there. Christian. |
