Default Poundland review

This thread is for review of Poundland products. Although very cheap,
and of mixed quality, enough of them are good enough for serious uses
-but certainly not all.

If you want to buy goods you know are all upto the job, go elsewhere.
If you want to buy a big pile of tools very cheaply, then fill in any
remaining needs later from other suppliers, poundland is a good choice.
Although not of professional quality, quite a lot is good enough for
the majority of home maintenance use.

Default Poundland review: 12 oz hammer

Metal handled 12 oz claw hammer, black rubber grip.

One of their best items, survived concrete breaking work no problem,
can't fault it.

Sco 5/5

Issues: none

Default Poundland review: 4' large spirit level

4' long spirit aluminium level

Very flimsy, must be treated with care at all times.

Some read right, some dont. Test it before you buy, or you might find
everything's on the wonk.

One of their poorer items, but if you only need a large level for a job
or 2, its certainly a very cheap option.

Issues: very flimsy, some read wrong.

Default Poundland review: CFL lightbulbs

CFL lightbulbs

Light quality: dreadful. 6800K is simply not well suited to domestic
use.

Lumen output: poor to medium to start with, deteriorating over the
months to very poor.

Life time: The one I got lasted around 6000 hours. As a sample of one
this doesnt tell a great deal, except that they do work.

Uses: hard to think of any where I would regard these bulbs as a good
choice. The only thing I can think of is as electric moonlight, theyre
just the right sort of cold bluey dim light.

Default Poundland review: ratchet clamps

Black plastic ratchet clamps with metal bars. 2 sizes available. The
smaller size ones can be converted to spreaders by dismantling and
reassembling.

Ratchet clamps are useful for quick limited pressure clamping. These
have proved very handy. Have had no problems or issues with them at
all.

Issues: none

Default Poundland review: ratchet screwdriver

Ratchet screwdriver with screwdriving bits and 1/4" drive sockets

The ratchet mechanisms were too weak to survive use, and both broke the
first time a screw was tightened, making the screwdrivers useless.

The screwdriving bits work, but the metal quality is not very hard, so
they have not lasted well.

The sockets seem ok, though 1/4" drive makes for limited strength. Fine
for opening appliances etc, but not for heavier work.

Issues: not upto the job in my experience.

Default Poundland review: Aviation tinsnips

Aviation pattern tinsnips

Pretty good tinsnips, no problems experienced. The only minor issue is
the grinding isnt at the right angle right at the tip, but this has not
proven a significant problem in practice.

No good for concrete breaking, then.

Was it £1?

Wow, OG! I'd guessed it might, 'cos I've heard of it - but I'm
surprised it's called "Poundland", rather than "99pland", 'cos
that's what many competitors sell things at. Still, they used
to call Woolworth's the "tuppenny and sixpenny" store.....
I must hasten along to see these wonderous things reviewed by
Nige....

Try Lidl's instead (Osram?) Good light output and the fastest time to
full output that I've yet seen.

Well? What are you reviewing, or do we all now add threads
saying "Tesco review", "Screwfix review", "Wickes review",
etc? Did you mean to psot it here?

Err, Chris. No offence meant but have you got something against the
OP? Or Poundland? or did you just not understand what the point of
the thread was?

Poundland ("Yes - Everything's a pound") sell tools. Unsurprisingly
they cost a pound each. They are of variable quality. The OP thought
it may be useful to collect together the wisdom of uk.d-i-y in one
thread for reviews of very cheap (i.e. £1) tools.

For instance:
I purchased a 12" bow saw from Poundland to cut down three small
trees. That was all I needed to do with it.

The blade was flimsy and not particularly sharp but it managed to cut
down my three trees. So job done in my book. I got a tool for a
specific job that saved me a reasonable amount of money.

3/5

Does that clear things up?

Actually they was going to call it "rejectland", but renamed it
"Poundland", because all the stuff was from warehouse's that have been
lying on the shelf for donkeys years if the truth be known it's an 'Arthur
Daily buisness' apparently the stuff sells at a pound because people will
not take the stuff back as it was such a trivial price.

I do admit to buying 3 large scented candles in there but a point not to
pay a visit again as the candles burnt down in the middle leaving a 1" wax
outer, what a waste, they also sell universal remotes in there...sadly they
don't work.

No.

Everything? I thought it was just an indication of cheap prices...

I've yet to visit the place but my father used to visit it quite
regularly. The stuff seems to be a mixed bag, some very good value and
some total crap.

also the two aluminium torchs i bought 6 months ago are working fine
and unlike the previous torches
i havent lost or run them over with a car yet (others were £10 a go)

Paper Masking
5x rolls of 2.5cm tape. ditto

Insulating

We've probably got about half a dozen around the place. More or less
everywhere that we would normally expect to put an adaptor.

Ours is selling a card with a dozen 2ml tubes of superglue together with
a small tube of superglue unsticker. Sounds like quite a good deal to
me.
