Default Reviews of WC's

I know this seems like a joke question but are there any sites that review
toilet systems. It seems incredible that such a fundamental piece of home
equipment is not reviewed anywhere. Even Which? seem to turn a blind eye.
I'm sure there are quite a lot of differences in the performance of the best
and worst cisterns. I found a US site but it only refers to US toilets.

Any ideas or recommendations

Thanks

Good site - it appears that we are happy to put up with crappy designs that
might look good but lack some good features.

I think you have a very good point. I put in a new bathroom suite last year
and got a new wc from Bathstore.com. Can't remember exactly which model it
was now but we bought it as it looked nice and modern. The wc has a large
sloping area at the front leading to a small "drop zone" towards the back.
Basically the drop zone is too far back and too small which means we have to
scrub the pan pretty much daily to keep it clean.

I should have asked for a test drive first.

We are finding similar problems with our Catalano toilet from
Bathstore. Very expensive, very nice to look at, but need cleaning
after every no. 2!! With this toilet the drop zone is too far forward
and your faeces land on what is almost a shelf! To make matters worse
most of the flush shoots about 1/2" over said shelf leaving half the
**** behind!

[from Exrxes News Network]

Homosexuals in Yorkshire have reacted angrily to the decision taken by
Grimmclogge Borough Council to replace the town's notorious Foundry Lane
toilets, and replace them with a new 'Super-Loo' (writes E.N.N social
affairs correspondent, Ivor Gottergrudge)

Headlining the decision as 'Monstrously Intolerant', the November issue of
Bend Magazine carried a blistering attack on the Borough Council by leading
homosexual activist, Ashley DuPonce, who urged readers to gather en-mass
inside the toilets for a display of Pink Power - a rallying cry that caused
some surprise to Council officials, who pointed out that there were seldom
fewer than Thirty homosexuals inside the Foundry Lane conveniences during
opening hours.

"There's so many of t' buggers carryin' on inside t' toilets as you'd think
they was 'olding a demonstration there every day of t' week!!", commented
Councillor Fred Martinet (Conservative, Grimmclogge West) who, as current
leader of the Council, was largely responsible for the decision to close the
lavatories down.

"I've been saying for years that them toilets needed knockin' down",
continued Councillor Martinet, "Decent folks dursent go in 'em any more,
what wi' all the buggerin' and drilling 'oles, and chisellin' out bricks
from t' cubicle walls as goes on in there!", adding, "Aye, an' it costs
local ratepayers a tidy sum, an' all, ter keep sending a maintenance team
around ter try an' repair t' damage!"

Dismissing Councillor Martinet' comments 'outrageous homophobia', Ashley
DuPonce called for the toilets to be retained as a 'vital resource for the
local gay and transgendered community, making the point that Grimmclogge was
unlikely to be successful in its bid to become the next European City of
Culture if it continued to legislate against homosexuals.

"We're queer, and we're here", said Mr DuPonce, "and if the Council thinks
that they are going to squeeze us all into one of those horrid little
stainless steel Super-Loo's, they can think again!"

"We know our rights", he concluded.

I have to agree, there are times when I would like to purchase items but
then find that they are never reviewed! I have a bugbear at the moment
about thetford portapottie toilets for caravans. they are ridiculous! they
are only suitable for children or small framed females! they are like toy
toilets! I have emailed thetford about this..but am not holding my breath
that they will do anything about it. people just put up with stuff. it
maddens me sometimes. anyway, trying to find reviews on these things and it
looks like no one has ever reviewed one.

When I was wandering around Wickes looking for a new loo,
I found one in the showroom where someone had...

In the end, went for a cheap B&Q one, which doesn't suffer
from the various problems outlined in this thread, although
it is only a 6l flush. Don't bother with the toy seat B&Q
provide to match it though -- get a proper one.
Oh and make sure the cistern has a standard sized hole for
the ball valve inlet -- there are some around which don't,
and it's nearly impossible to find a replacement ball valve
which fits them.

Fortunately, I managed to mangle the thread on the supplied
ball valve inlet, which gave me the excuse to replace it
with a Fluidmaster one (and it was a standard sized hole).

Someone did post a favourable reference here a while back to the 'non-stick'
surfacing offered on some B&Q suites (and no doubt elsewhere). As another
poster says a byproduct of the reduced flushing volume now allowed is a
narrower throat with consequences that need not be described.

All this irrelevant fuss about WC pans!! - the *real* action (so I am told)
occurs at the urinals.......

No joke taken, I am interested in this subject and am putting together
a small site reviewing the technology behind WC's: Siphons, cisterns,
drop-valve designs, electric operated and pneumatic flush options.

A best and worst list of wc pans on the market would be very useful so
to get started I would like to ask that people on this group mail me
(easy demangle my email address) their own cistern/pan models, their
suppliers, and a quick note on their efficiency/experiences.

Some bogs are designed so that the turds land on a shelf so that one
can inspect them before flushing away. Very useful in countries like
Africa. one can see if there are any wriggly things in it (intestinal
worms). I spent four years in central Africa - got the teeshirt.
