Miranda dropped the files on my desk. It was now time to play everybody's fa
vorite game: Ditch the clients.
Carl stood there a moment, seemingly preoccupied. I followed his line of sig
ht down to his toes. He was busily squelching sand through them. After a few
seconds of this, he stepped out of his footprints and let the tide wash int
o them, partially erasing them. Then he put his feet back into them.
"You're nothing like my aunt," Avika said.
"Bingo," I said.
