Hey Iggy...want a decent sailboat?

The model is a decent one. This particular boat is at the right price range for an unknown sailboat of this type. Ive posted boats this morning that were way way undervalued and the photos showed them to be very very very good condition. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/freesailboats/info https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/sailboatstuff/info As Ive mentioned before, sailing is in a lull period. It was huge between the mid 60s and 1980s..then went into a slow decline for the next 30 yrs. When one bought a decent sized sailboat in the mid 1980s for example..it cost more than a new car. So only the well off could afford one. Being "well off" is generally a middle aged thing. Fast forwards 30 yrs. Now those middle aged guys are elderly or dead and all those boats are simply sitting on trailers, cradles or floating in expensive slips. The next of kin is scattered, the widow is moving to a condo or in with the kids and they want the boats gone. That trend continues and with the economy in such poor shape...more of those boats are coming up for sale at firesale prices. Some are in poor shape, most are in decent shape..some are in excellent shape. Even a boat in "fair" condition can be sailed and enjoyed for very little money and maintained/restored at ones convience. I picked up a boat/trailer in September for $300, got it home 3 weeks ago and have been doing a restoration as work and money permits. Its all cosmetic with no issues. https://picasaweb.google.com/1040422...2?noredirect=1 Other boats Ive picked up and currently sail https://picasaweb.google.com/1040422...2602/Venture24 https://picasaweb.google.com/104042282269066802602/Oday https://picasaweb.google.com/1040422...602/Ensenada20 https://picasaweb.google.com/104042282269066802602/FJ1 https://picasaweb.google.com/1040422...66802602/FJ202 Anyone want a free one..come and get this. Its solid and needs a mast ($200) and a couple weekends of cleaning https://picasaweb.google.com/1040422...02/Ensenada202 Ive turned down 3 other boats in the past 3 months. I simply dont have the time or space. Shrug So far..my total investment, boats and supplies for restoration..has been right at $1000, Thats (7) boats, so Im into each for less than $150. I expect to spend another $500 (for an outboard and other materials) by the time the last one is complete. Come spring, Ill sort em out, sell the ones I like the least, make my money back 5 fold..and then pick up a few more. Wash and repeat. Its a fun hobby and is one of the reasons I spend less time here. Ive been machining the odd part here and there and using my shop tools to work on them. I posted that particular boat for you as it would be a good boat for you to break into sailing with. The price is right, the boat is solid and well liked..No other boats were made in the numbers the Catalina 22 has been made in (15,000)..so parts are easy to find, cheap in price and its a safe stable boat. for you and the family. Its not..not a racer..but a great family boat. What leads you to claim that its "garbage"? Seen it? Visit the boat? Checked it out? And your vita as to being a boat grading expert is what again? This coming from a scrapper is rather fascinating. What leads you to claim that its "garbage"? Is it brand new? Who wants used garbage? Seen it? Visit the boat? Checked it out? Say you're joking for once, OK? Nobody should want to unless its a brand new boat. Just like anything else. Who wants used when you can buy new? And your vita as to being a boat grading expert is what again? Just buy new. That way if you have a problem, insurance covers it. No one has to worry about what was somebody else's problem. This coming from a scrapper is rather fascinating. I know a scrap metal hoard who has a warehouse full of steel, etc... who'd probably agree. So I doubt its unusual. |
