Wow, great deal! Grainger wants $36.65 for a 6' stick of it, plus s/h.

This of course is 316 stainless...

What would half inch tubing be doing on a sailboat? It's not strong
enough to tie up with, not strong enough to tie a sail to, or use to
help a 200# human get onboard from the ocean. Hmm...

Magazine or plate retaining rails in the galley?

Some photo analysis indicates its *NOT* 1/2" tubing. The images are
consistant with 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" tubing and it is most likely to be the
latter as that would be a simple typo placing the ad.

If its the right size for stancheons someone local will have probably
snapped it up by now.

Nah, bimini tops use 1", don't they? (First one on Amazon has 7/8")
It's probably 1-1/2", anyway.

Stanchions are generally 1 inch.

Yes, but some larger vessels with high multi wire stanchions do use 32mm
(1 1/4")

I mentioned it because I keep a suitable length of salvaged tubing
aboard. If someone prangs one of my stanchions in a marina, I can fix it
in under half an hour if there's no significant GRP damage. Of course if
your boat has tapered stanchions or has ones with integral caps, you dont
have any cheap options.

MOST boat tubing is 1" (small craft)

Some runs 1 1/8"
