There are 1.5 million more unemployed than in January, 2009.

And there are 8,245,105 more people in the US.

Why don't you look at the number EMPLOYED?:

Ja sure there are more people employed, but the economy is not growing at a rate as high as the rate of new people entering the work force. If we keep at this rate the number of unemployed will keep rising.

Here's private nonfarm employment:

Here's total government employment:

Whoop! You mean, private employment has gone up -- as has total
employment -- while government employment has gone down??? What's a
Republican to do??

Easy vote for someone besides the incumbent.

That won't change the fact that total employment has indeed gone up.

The percentage of the total US population -- including cildren,
seniors, and everyone else -- that is employed is 43%. The percentage
of private-sector jobs added, as a percentage of the population
increase from Jan. 2009 is...43%.

So, it's not a good situation, but the implication of the earlier
post, and your statement here, are incorrect. That is, if we don't keep
cutting government jobs. But it looks like that well is about dried
up.

If we keep at this rate the number of unemployed will keep rising.

Of course. And that would hold true if the unemployment rate was 1%.

For those who can't do arithmetic, yes.

Total employment in January 2009 was 142,187,000. In May 2012 it was
142,287,000. In between, it fell to under 140,000,000 in July 2009 and
remained under that level until September 2011. Meanwhile, the labor
force participation rate has fallen steadily since January 2009, from
65.7% to the current level of 63.8%

That is true, but not very relevant since the total work force has gone up more.

The wholesale cutback of government workers has been working quite well for
us then I can assume...
